Thoughts on the Real Estate market, foreclosed homes with Mold and Indoor Air Quality Concerns

Recently, I have been performing more inspections for potential home buyers and their agents. These inspections have been for properties that may have indoor air quality and mold issues associated with them.

Many of these homes for sale that I have inspected have been foreclosed homes and homes on the market for multiple months.   

These types of homes are unfortunately more likely to exhibit mold growth and indoor air quality issues. This is because they have been either left in poor condition during foreclosure or they haven't been cared for properly during their vacancy while being listed for sale.

Sellers, buyers and realtors should not be scared off by any of these potential problems. Most of the time, these issues can be addressed quickly and economically.  Additionally, if the home were to be affected by mold and indoor air quality issues, this provides an excellent negotiating point to be discussed during the sale.
